4 Essentials to Jumpstart Your Walk of Faith

April 20, 2015

4 Essentials (website)Walking by faith can seem so elusive. The Lord puts something on our heart to pray for, we get energized, put feet of faith toward it . . . and falter when we don’t see something soon enough. And often, what we do see is far from what we’re praying for. So our focus moves to that direction—away from hope and faith—and we grow discouraged.

But as elusive as it may be, walking by faith is the call of God for us as believers. And there’s such great encouragement in that, because whatever God calls us to do, He gives us the ability to do. And since we have the Spirit of the living God within us, we can actually walk by faith.

Let me say that again: We can actually walk by faith.

But we do need to put away a few things. Why do we wear discouragement like a cloak? Why do we receive fear and doubt as companions? They are not part of kingdom life. They are trespassers, and we let them in. But armed as we are with the power of God, we can kick them out.

“For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.” 2 Timothy 1:7

The Lord wants to use us as vessels for His glory, wherever we are planted. And His work in and through us requires a walk of faith. “And without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of those who seek Him” (Hebrews 11:6).

So, honestly? This faith-walk can’t be elusive. It has to be the heartbeat of our lives. Can we together focus on building up this all-important muscle of faith? God has given us everything we need.

In this week’s video—4 Essentials to Jumpstart Your Walk of Faith—I delve more into this. Yes, you guessed it—“reject fear and doubt” is among them. We’ve got one life to live on this earth. We know where we’re headed. The victory is already ours. While we’re here, why not walk with the power, assurance, wisdom, truth, grace, strength, and fearlessness that are ours in Christ Jesus? Let’s walk by faith!

Walking by faith… This video was such a great refresher for me. I feel like at this stage of life it is time to strap on my faith shoes and get real. I have not been toned into the Lord and allowed life to happen and got discouraged but it’s time to end that. I loved what you said about believing and the difference of fear etc. I also loved that you mentioned lifelong Bible study and it’s benefits because I too forget that the Bible outlines what I already have and can get! Thanks for the tips I got me a spark !

Felecia, you know I’m smiling because it’s so good to see you here. :) I love that word “refresher”…it’s so on point for this topic. We *know* these things, yet need to remind ourselves continually. I wish it wasn’t so easy to get off track with respect to walking by faith, but doubt or fear can throw us off so quickly! I hear you on getting intentional….strapping on those faith shoes and not just allowing life to happen. Yes! We really, really need to purpose in our hearts that this is what we’re going to do, understanding that the Lord will give us power and grace and everything else we need, every step of the way. I’m glad you got a spark! I got a spark myself! :) Let’s faith-walk down this road together!

Well, Amen sister!!!! That’ll preach :)

I love how you handle the Word of God and His truth and how you make it practical and accessible. I love how you point us always to God and His Word and help us to see what that means for life!!!

Well, I don’t even know where to begin in a comment. This was soooo meaty!

I think I like (besides all of it)…oh bother…I just think it was all rich, but one thing God has been really showing me is that point about “believe”. When God says it, it is! When a “yeah, but…” pops up — reject it and point that thought back to “here’s what God says…you gonna argue with God????” Run everything through the filter of God’s truth found in His Word and ask God for the ability to discern the subtle lies that are competing with His truth. God is faithful. If He has said it, it IS! We can count on it…but we need to know His Word and HIM.

This walk of faith is about relationship and flows out of our relationship with and because of our relationship to Him. You are so wise in encouraging us that we don’t have to have all the knowledge or understanding of His Word before we can begin to walk by faith…He leads us one step at a time and builds us right through our entire lives…

    Such good, good truth here!!
    Hugs & blessings.

Debbie, that’s exactly what God has been really showing me also (which you might be able to tell:))…BELIEVE. Over and over and over….WHY is there a need for the “over and over and over” in each and every new situation. Kim, just BELIEVE. *sigh* There’s such freedom in that! Freedom from worrying about all the “yeah but…” stuff that pops up, as you say. Love this…”…ask God for the ability to discern the subtle lies that are competing with His truth”….they can indeed be so subtle, yet pack enough of a punch to sink your faith. We cannot succumb to it! (Can you hear me trying to cheer us both on? :)) So thankful to be on this walk of faith with you, and to be able to build one another up.

Hugs & blessings to you too, my sister!
